In the local area

No other building in London quite conjures up such a sense of foreboding as The Tower. Reputedly haunted by the ghosts of numerous unfortunate prisoners (and reportedly the ghost of a bear!), The Tower of London is probably the most atmospheric of all places, being the site for many dramatic and grisly events through its many, many years.  If walls could talk, these ones could tell you some black-hearted, corrupt and sad stories………

In contrast, a short and pleasant stroll from the Tower and its famous Bridge, you will find the noble HMS Belfast.  Launched in 1938, this Royal Navy ship has seen its share of active service from the Normandy Landings to the Korean War, before eventual decommissioning and preservation as a floating museum in the late 1960’s.

If you want to stretch your legs and stimulate your cultural side a little further, why not take time to visit the Tate Britain?  Admission into this brilliant arena of art is free (apart from access to special exhibitions).  World famous artists from the 1500’s through to the present day have had their works hung on these walls and placed within its rooms.  The permanent collections are varied, including artists such as JMW Turner, Henry Moore, David Hockney and Francis Bacon.  All are housed under one roof, preserved for the nation.  In addition, special works and exhibitions from contemporary and currently stellar artists, including Tracey Emin and Damien Hurst, are a regular feature on its calendar.
