Stepping out of the door of this exclusive hotel, you will have so much to pack into a day! A popular and enduring place to start is probably at London’s most famous residence – Buckingham Palace. The official home and working headquarters of the incumbent monarch, Buckingham Palace is a sight to behold. This landmark building has a rich history. Stretching back to the 1700’s, it is now open to the public where you can visit the State Rooms within the Palace itself. Within the gilded walls of these rooms, monarchs over the years have received, entertained and enthralled guests, including their subjects and visiting foreign dignitaries. There are 19 rooms in total, all of which are furnished and decorated with treasures from the Royal Collection and some of the State Rooms are used for formal occasions, such as Jubilees. Audio tours are available in a range of different languages and each leads the guest through every room and exhibition with a detailed commentary.
The State Rooms are not the Palaces only draw – the colourful Changing of the Guards takes place each day from May until July, (then every alternate day thereafter), at 11am and lasts for 45 minutes. It is a sight that should not to be missed from any itinerary.
The spectacular but tranquil St James Park is a hop skip and jump away from Buckingham Palace. The oldest of all the Royal Parks, St James Park is famed for its varied flora and fauna and is open from 5am to midnight every day of the year, and is the perfect place for a spot of al fresco dining, be it a picnic or a bite at one of the Parks restaurants. Deck chairs are also available for hire through the summer months.
