The Old Town Square is probably one of the most popular, and sprung up under the watchful eye of the nearby magnificent castle. The castle is a reflection of the mish mash of tastes and styles throughout the ages, from early 9th century through to the 14th and 15th centuries. They have all amalgamated into one complex with courtyards, palatial rooms and towers, which are just begging to be explored.
The Square is a remarkable place, surrounded by beautiful buildings including St Nicholas Church, the Old Town Hall and the Tyn Church, which is probably one of the most recognisable in the whole of the city. The Gothic arcades and spires are very well photographed and there is much to be admired, when standing under its ornate splendour. A short wander away you will find the Charles Bridge. This bridge connects the Old Town with the rest of the city and in summer you can spend a whole day, marvelling at the street artists and painters, and street vendors who spring up everywhere. At over 500 metres long, the bridge was a wonder of engineering when it was built in the 1300’s, resting on 16 arches and wide enough to accommodate up to 4 horse drawn carriages and carts side by side.
