Our top picks close to this hotel

For families

The Grand Galerie deI’Evolution is a very kid centric attraction in Paris.  This amazing glass roofed, iron clad structure is a delight in itself, but it comes alive with life size models of snapping sharks, monkeys swinging from the ceiling, elephants marching and a whole menagerie of other bugs, beasties and critters. Resembling a wild day out on Noah’s Ark, this magnificent museum is laid out over multiple levels and glass fronted lifts whisk you up and up until you reach the floor which showcases, quite sadly, all the endangered and extinct species on this planet.

For romance

Chateau de Malmaison is the love nest of Josephine and Napoleon which was bought by them in 1799.  The entrance to the house was redesigned to echo that of a military tent.  Tours can be taken of the sumptuous house, and weddings regularly take place there.

For culture

The Museum of Everything is one quite unlike any other. Where nothing is put in a box and categorised, this place has opened its doors to exhibitors from all walks of life, some of whom are outsiders or marginalised by society but capable of amazing works and art.  You will find no famous names here, just collections of extraordinary things by extraordinary people.  Some of the works here are the culmination of obsessive needs to create, while other are simply to reflect on a situation or explain a feeling but whatever and however they came about, they tell a story of someone.  Powerful stuff.

For shopping

Printemps is a classic French department store which is run by friendly, multilingual teams of knowledgeable sale staff who can direct you to literally anything.  Designer goods, clothing for men, women and kids, lifestyle items, health and beauty goods are all available under one, very large roof.  The window displays at this store are a delight to behold and change seasonally.  They also occasionally hold exhibitions to iconic and exceptional European designers where you can press your nose and drool against glass cases which contain coveted items and exhibits.  There is also a cafe bar and restaurant for when all the retails therapy becomes a little too much for you.

For eating out

Chez Gladines is a friendly and warm cafe cum canteen where cheap and cheerful food is the order of the day.  Proving that cheap does not mean nasty, this place is always packed so be prepared to share your table space with your neighbours elbows…….

For nightlife

Cafe Universal is an unpretentious jazz club where anything goes amongst they arrays of jazz memorabilia and artefacts.  Friendly and genuine, if you love jazz head here and kick back into the wee small hours.
